Am Sad

It's a sad day for America. The House voted for the Senate version of the Health Care tax & spend boondoggle last night.

So, this is the bill which the benefits won't start until 2014, but the taxes and fees begin immediately (which is how they got the CBO's cost under the $1,000,0000,000 mark).

Additionally, this is the bill which the government begins saying that they have the right to force American citizens to buy products (as you will be fined, and threatened with imprisonment, if you do not purchase health care insurance).

Already there's rumors of losing about half of the medical doctors in practice today by 2014. Don't believe me? When tort reform failed to pass in Mississippi back in 2002, the state lost hundreds of doctors, leaving some small towns without one completely. Rather than lose money, those doctors either retired or left the state. We already see this same behavior with Medicare doctors and pharmacists, why do we think it will be different just because this is a new entitlement program?

Finally, this runs the risk of me losing the insurance I currently have. If my boss has to chose between keeping his employees employed without insurance or having to fire someone to keep the rest with insurance, he's going to choose to drop the insurance. Sure, he'll be fined by the Federal government for that action, but that fine may be less than the health insurance costs his business.

No matter what happens, I lose.

So, here's what I'm doing: for (at least) the next 6 years, I'm not voting for a Congressional incumbent. I'll vote in the primaries and the general election, and no matter what, I'm not voting for the incumbent.

It's time we started over.
