A Sad, Sad Day

Well, Thursday evening was, at the “Cap-And-Trade” bill was passed in the House.  What is saddest is that there were 8 so-called Conservatives (at least they get a little “R” next to their name) who voted FOR this bill.

Those Republican Representatives are:

  • Bono Mack (CA) (202) 225-5330
  • Castle (DE) (202) 225-4165
  • Kirk (IL) (202) 225-4385
  • Lance (NJ) (202) 225-5361
  • LoBiondo (NJ) (202) 225-6572
  • McHugh (NY) (202) 225-4611
  • Reichert (WA) (202) 225-7761
  • Smith (NJ) (202) 225-3765

Now, one may wonder why it is that I despise this particularly bill. After all, the Democrats promise us that it’s ever-so-important in regards to the environment.

What the Dims don’t want you to know, is that this bill will be responsible for raising that cost of energy by thousands of dollars.  And that price tag is even before you factor in the jobs that will be lost, and the 1.6 Trillion dollar price tag attached.

In effect this is a massive tax on every person in this country.

But of course the Liberals don’t want THAT to be the sound bite. They tell everyone that the Businesses pick up the bill. That the “Cap and Trade” in question here are just fines and fees levied against businesses.

But that belays the most obvious thing that any business owner will tell you:

 Businesses do not pay taxes.

It’s simple. They don’t. They never have, and they never will. Anything that comes their way that is labeled as a tax or a fee or a fine, is merely passed onto the consumer. It’s part of the price that you pay for any good or service.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying or ignorant. Or both.

But it gets better, those folks who know these things—and I’m including the greenies here –state that this bill will influence the environment by less than 1/10th of a degree in 50 years.

Yes, our “fair” leaders have seen fit to saddle us with massive debt, a program which encourages the wasteful spending of states such as California, and passes that burden onto more fiscally conservative states (such as Indiana) and one which seems to be designed to drive businesses overseas.

They will be driven to counties which produce more “greenhouse” gases than we do, and by driving our businesses to them, they will see no real reason to stop producing the gasses which get an environmentalist’s panties into such a bunch.

In fact, this is what the Heritage Foundation has defined as the end result of this bill if it manages to pass the Senate:

  • Compared to no cap and trade, real GDP losses increase an additional $2 trillion, from $7.4 trillion under the original draft to $9.6 trillion under the new draft;
  • Compared to no cap and trade, average unemployment increases an additional 261,000 jobs, from 844,000 lost jobs under the original draft to 1,105,000 lost jobs under the new draft; and
  • Peak-year unemployment losses rise by 500,000 jobs, from 2 million under the original draft to 2.5 million under the new draft.

By 2035 the bill will:

  • Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.4 trillion;
  • Destroy 1,145,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs;
  • Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation;
  • Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 58 percent;
  • Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent;
  • Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,241; and
  • Result in an increase of $28,728 in additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation

Why anyone thought this was a good idea is beyond me, but I guess that’s why I’m a Conservative.

Breeding for Stupidity

I'm one of those folks, who firmly believe that if you raise a kid right, he'll go the right way (hey, it's a firm, Biblical principle). Overall, it worked for me. I'm happily capitalistic, pro-privacy, pro-life, a firm believer in small government, and a die-hard Constitutionalist. Additionally, I have a healthy disdain for the government, and anyone who takes the effort to attempt to tell me what the truth is, especially when they do so after repeatedly being caught in partisan lies (i.e. the MSM).

So, imagine my surprise, when I discovered an article on the Blogger News Network discussing those environmentalists who believe it's bad environmental policy to have children. The BNN article points on towards an article from the Daily Mail (an UK newspaper) entitled: Meet the Women Who Won't Have Babies... Because they're not eco friendly.

Frankly, I was dumbfounded at first. I have always found it hard to believe that there are folks out there who just don't want to have children. It truly does make my head hurt on occasion, as I ponder such things.

Yet for all the various reasons one could use to justify the decision to not have children, the concept of them being "not eco friendly" is just so off the wall, that in my ruminations I had never considered it.

I was flabbergasted; nigh upon shocked speechless.

And, as my wife would love to point out, it takes a lot to do that to me.

Of course, now that I've had a bit of time to consider things, and after reading the additional lunacy which is evident in the comments to said thread, I have to say that I applaud their decision. How could I not?

Especially, if you consider my view of things related to the rearing of children from the first paragraph.

Consider this, if all the nut job liberals stopped having kids, only the kids of us who believe in small government and the Constitution would be around.

Unfortunately, liberty through natural selection isn't fast enough for my taste, as there are enough socialists/liberals out there to make my life miserable today.

Methan, Frogs, and You

There has been a couple interesting articles put out recently, the first has to deal with greenhouse gases, most specifically methane (click here for link). In what I'm sure is a amazing surprise to those crazed eco-whacko's, plants are a major contributor to greenhouse gases. To me, this is no surprise, as for a long time, I've realized that the majority of greenhouse gas emissions occur where there is the fewest people, such as the blue ridge mountain ranges in the Carolinas. It's just those many people who want to blame all the world's ills on human environmental impact (less than .1% of greenhouse gases mind you) that this is bad news for. Personally, I don't care if the ambient temperature raises a degree point over the next hundred years. After all, according to evolutionists (and geologists) the world has spent more time as a greenhouse than it has in an ice age or what we would consider normal temperatures (and what they call normal temperatures are those temperatures recorded during the past 100 years or so). So what is the response to this interesting tidbit? Why rather than any form of common sense, we just get "well this may mean we need to reconfigure the Kyoto protocols slightly."

Can I get a bah?

On to interesting story number two. It actually is related in a round about way, but it deals with the mass extinction of various frog types. Apparently during unseasonably warm winters certain fungus gets to grow in different areas and take out whole species of frogs. Apparently this fungus thrives when there is less of a temperature differential between day and night. So what's to blame you ask? Global warming. Apparently, global warming causes nights to be warmer and days to be cooler, allowing these fungus to thrive. As a side note, global warming has also been cited as the cause of record low temperatures in Europe this winter, as well as the replacement of various cold-water plankton with warm-water plankton.

What gets me is that most of this eco-whacko's are evolutionists as well. They believe that whole survival of the fittest shtick. That life has no intrinsic value and all of us have evolved from some lower life form to fill an ecological niche. Except humans, who are evil incarnate, and are put on this planet merely to destroy the environment. That alone makes me wonder what the big deal about the dying frogs are? After all, they did not survive, they were weak, now the earth will have to bring something else to fill that particular niche.

But hey, what do I know. After all, I believe in neither global warming nor in evolution. However, I do believe that this earth of ours is much, much hardier than the eco-whacko's give her credit to being. I think we could probably wipe out whole ranges of species, and something would just move in to take its place. As has been happening for thousands of years as us evil humans have exterminated other species. After all, there was not a huge ecological impact after the dodo bird was wiped out in its entirety.

Oh wait, I forgot that we can't let little things like logic or past experience get in the way of what the Left want us to believe. So go on and worry about that .01% of atmospheric carbon dioxide that humans put in the air actually has a bearing on our global environment. Then go cry over those little froggies who will never get to be bait for me to catch a large-mouth bass with.

But why you are doing this, can you at least wonder why the Left wants us to worry and cry about this. After all, we do have more important things to worry about, like Big Government.

The Untruthful Vegan

PETA will do anything to get you to not eat meat. Including lie about Christ. In an effort to further their political agenda they are spreading lies about Christ, saying that He would encourage (their website says He did encourage) a vegan lifestyle. What's even more amazing, is that they claim He had a vegan lifestyle. This is nonsense. Jesus was a Jew. He performed all the proper rituals according to that religion. Including the Passover Lamb and probably witnessed and encouraged animal sacrifice. It is sad that this organization would use such overt lies to further their political view.

Personally I have never understood PETA. What's wrong with raising animals for slaughter? They exist to be food. If we don't eat them something else will. That is the way of the world. To deny that is to deny nature. A good portion of these people assume that given time anyone (could they even think anything) would choose to be a vegan. I'm here to tell them I will never give up my meat. There is nothing wrong with raising animals for food. There is nothing wrong with hunting animals for food. There is nothing wrong with killing animals for food. I think I might start a new group. People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegatables (PEVe). We'll try to liberate those poor defenseless plants that are raised just to be ripped from their homes and slaughtered for the consumption of those heartless Vegans. What's worse is all the various chemicals and poisions we routinely dump on those poor defenseless plants. How dare we? Don't we have feelings for the Turnip?

Okay, enough of that, it hurts my head to think that way. Give me a nice steak and potatoes and salad. I'm equal opportunity, I'll slaughter both plants and animals.

Environmentalist stupidity

I am as ever amazed by the stupidity that is espoused by environmentalists. With the "Earth Summit" over in South Africa, this is in the forefront of my thoughts. What do the Environmentalists want? And why do they want to take my rights away to achieve their desires? Here is a nice qoute showing some of their odd thoughts on the matter:
It’s about not using up our natural capital such as wilderness areas, forests, a fish stock or an aquifer...
I'm still trying to figure out how we can use up a renewable resource such as trees. Isn't the fact that they are called 'RENEWABLE' mean that they would never run out??

This doesnt really help for the environmentalist's credibility factor.

Also check this one out:
Americans represent 4.5 percent of the world’s population ... produce 25 percent of the world’s major greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, amongst other wastes.
Did you know that the area of the US with the highest ozone level is the Appalachian Mountains? Yet there are no major cities, no major highways, just bunches and bunches of trees. Did you know that there is a stagnant brown cloud hovering over the India subcontinent? Created not by industries, not by cars, not by Western Civilization. Rather it is created by the burning of wood as a fuel source. Of course these facts are omitted when discussing environmental concerns.

These environmentalists hate America so much that they blame the world's trouble on America, and like so many other topics, conservatives sit back and ignore them. Instead of ignoring this, why do we not attack? Why do we not call them on these many errors in their way of thinking? Why do we huddle in defense and allow all these liberal thoughts, programs, and idiocy destroy our great nation.
